JFR HOSTS FORMAL DINNER FOR POLISH RIGHTEOUS IN WARSAW

On Tuesday, January 28, the JFR hosted a formal dinner at POLIN for Polish Righteous. In addition to the Righteous and their families, the event was attended by foreign diplomats and religious and community leaders, who spoke at the gathering. Attendees included Polish President Andrzej Duda’s Secretary of State Wojciech Kolarski; Minister Lech Parell, who leads Poland’s Office of War Veterans and Victims of Oppression, the Israeli Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Bosmat Baruch; the U.S. Embassy’s political counselor, Peter Neisuler; the German Embassy’s culture department head, Dr. Lorenz Barth, and Poland’s Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich. In addition, families of nine Israeli hostages held by Hamas attended the dinner.

As POLIN is closed on Tuesdays, the JFR would like to express its appreciation and thanks to POLIN for agreeing to open the Museum for this special occasion.

JFR INVITED TO PRESIDENTIAL PALACE FOR MEETING WITH POLISH JEWISH COMMUNITY

The JFR was invited to attend a special meeting that Polish President Andrzej Duda had with the Polish Jewish Community. The meeting was held just prior to the JFR’s dinner for the Righteous.

JFR ATTENDS THE 80th ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF AUSCHWITZ    

Led by JFR’s Board Chairman, Dr. Steven Field, the JFR attended the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz by the Soviet army. We attended the commemoration in Roman Kent’s honor. The commemoration was moving. We heard from several survivors of Auschwitz with Marian Turski being the first survivor to speak.

Lerner Fellows Meet at the Commemoration

JFR AWARDS PRESENTS THE ROBERT I. GOLDMAN AWARD TO ŁUCJA KOCK FROM POLAND AND KIMBERLY COOMBS FROM PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL

At its January 28 dinner honoring Polish Righteous in Warsaw, the JFR presented two outstanding educators with the Robert I. Goldman Award for Excellence in Holocaust Education.

Dr. Steven Field, JFR Board Chairman, presented Kimberly Coombs with her award. Kim, a JFR Lerner Fellow, is the School District of Palm Beach County’s K-12 Holocaust Studies Program Planner. In presenting the award, Dr. Field acknowledged Kim’s dedication to teaching the Holocaust.

Stanlee Stahl, JFR’s Executive Vice President, presented Łucja Koch, Vice Director for Education at POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, with her award. Stanlee has worked with Łucja since 2009. Łucja’s commitment to teaching the Holocaust in Poland is unparalleled.

Łucja is committed to ensuring that the Holocaust is taught in Poland.

JFR 2025 ADVANCED SEMINAR

The 2025 Advanced Seminar was an exceptional program! The presenting scholars were outstanding. The focus of the seminar was “America and the Holocaust.” We welcomed one new scholar to the JFR, Professor Thomas Doherty from Brandeis. Professor Doherty addressed Hollywood and the Third Reich. We are planning the 2026 Advanced Seminar.

JFR 2025 SUMMER INSTITUTE FOR TEACHERS

We have received all our applications for the JFR’s 2025 Summer Institute for Teachers (SIT). We will welcome 25 new Alfred Lerner Fellows in June. We have an outstanding group of Holocaust scholars presenting at the 2025 SIT.
