FOR STUDENTS The JFR has an ongoing initiative with a number of public and private schools in the New York - New Jersey metropolitan area. Participating schools are invited to send students and teachers to our annual dinner, providing the students with an opportunity to meet the rescuer being honored. The schools in the program are also involved with our Holocaust teacher education program.
Each year, members of the JFR education staff visit the participating schools and talk with students and teachers who will be attending the dinner. They describe the work of the JFR, tell the story of the rescuer, and discuss rescue in general. It is a rare treat for the students and educators to be a part of such a unique evening, and the JFR is delighted to provide this opportunity for area schools. Pictured here, at the 2008 JFR dinner, are students and teachers from the High School of Fashion Industries, one of the JFR's neighbors in New York City. Students from Fashion intern at our office and take an active interest in the work of the JFR. Our Schools Program continues to evolve as we find new ways to reach out to young people and educators in our area.
